A radio is an important piece of safety equipment on board and it is vital to understand the correct procedures. The Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel voluntarily fitted with a radio either fixed or hand held.

Event Details

We offer this as an online course through the RYA Interactive service, so you can study in your own time. The course takes approximately 10 hours to complete.

Once you have done the course you can come back to us and we will guide you through the exam which will take approximately 1 1/2 hours. The exam must be done in an RYA Training Centre (it cannot be done online)

PLEASE NOTE

This does not include the VHF exam fee which is £76 and is paid directly to the RYA before you attend the exam.

The SRC exam consists of a written theory exam and assessment in the practical use of marine VHF radios.
