The RYA Start Powerboating course is a fun and informative introduction to powerboating over a single day for complete beginners.
Assumed knowledge: None; may be preceded by L1 Start Powerboating
Course content: Launching and recovery, boat handling, securing to a buoy, anchoring, leaving and coming alongside, man overboard
Ability after the course: Self-sufficient powerboater in the right conditions, aware of own limitations and those of craft

The RYA Powerboat Handling Level 2 course aims to develop a range of practical basic skills enabling you to become a safe and competent powerboater, able to moor up the boat in a range of scenarios as well as driving the boat faster in open waters.
Assumed knowledge: Boat handling to the standard of the L2 Powerboat Handling course. Knowledge to the level of Day Skipper theory is recommended. It is also strongly recommended that candidates hold a first aid certificate and a VHF/SRC operators certificate.
Course content: Planning a day cruise, boat preparation, boat handling, pilotage, passage making, man overboard
Ability after the course: Able to plan and execute short coastal passages by day

The RYA Intermediate Powerboat course is a great stepping stone to start developing and applying navigation skills to extend your day on the water that little bit further and start exploring what’s around the corner.
Assumed knowledge: Candidates should be competent to the standard of the Intermediate Powerboat Certificate with thorough knowledge of the navigation and chartwork to the level of Coast Skipper / RYA Yatchmaster Shorebased certificate. It is strongly recommended that candidates hold a first aid certificate and a VHF/SRC operators licence or higher.
Course content: Preparation for sea, boat handling, passage making and responsibility as skipper, pilotage, meteorology, rules of the road (IRPCS), use of engines, emergency situations, night cruising
Ability after the course: Able to plan and execute coastal trips and return to a familiar port by night
Min duration: 2 Days, including at least 1 night navigation exercise
Minimum age: 17
The RYA Advanced Powerboat course brings you to explore night navigation and the joys of piloting your vessel by night. This qualification can also be commercially endorsed, enabling to work as a Powerboat Driver.
Assumed knowledge: Boat handling to the standard of the L2 Powerboat Handling course. Knowledge to the level of Day Skipper theory is recommended. It is also strongly recommended that candidates hold a first aid certificate and a VHF/SRC operators certificate.
Course content: Passenger safety and comfort, day & night time pilotage, emergency situations, associated theory
Ability after the course: Confident undertaking short ‘ship to shore’ transfers by day and night

The RYA Tender Operator course is particularly suited for crew working in the Superyacht industry who have responsibilities to take guests ashore from the vessel.
