STCW Proficiency in Security Awareness

What is the Proficiency in Security Awareness course and who is it for?

All seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on ships required to comply with the ISPS (International Ship and Port Security) code are required to undertake the Proficiency in Security Awareness course.

The course provides necessary knowledge for personnel intending to work on ships who will not have any designated security duties but who all the same require a heightened awareness of general security issues and practices.

Upon completion, candidates should be able to demonstrate competence to:

  • Contribute to the enhancement of maritime security through heightened awareness
  • Recognise security threats
  • Understand the need for and methods of maintaining security awareness and vigilance.
Duration: 4 hours 
 
Pre-requisites: None 
 

Certificate validity: The proficiency in Security Awareness does not expire

Certification: Upon successful completion you will be awarded a certificate in accordance with:

Regulation VI/6, paragraph 1 and Section A-VI/6, paragraphs 4 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978.
