What is the RYA Diesel Engine Course?
The RYA Diesel Engine Course is a 1-day beginners’ course, designed to help you prevent & solve marine diesel engine failure.
Mechanical failure is the main cause of rescue call-outs, and a basic knowledge of maintenance & engine care will help ensure that you are not part of this statistic.
Being able to service and maintain your boats engine gives you reassurance at sea and can also reduce your ownership costs.
With several real engines in our workshop, you will gain theoretical & practical hands on experience of modern diesel marine engines.
Changing fuel filters, oil filters, impellers and belts are all covered in detail.

- Principles of diesel engine operation
- The systems and parts of the diesel engine
- Fault finding
- Rectification of common problems
- Bleeding the fuel system
- Changing the impeller
- Routine maintenance
- Winter lay up procedures
